Week 1,545

At Shibuya Station this week

I had just visited my parents’ place last week, but this weekend my father called a family meeting — his first in years — on Saturday night. When he summons us, it usually means something serious, so I boarded the train with a sense of nervous anticipation. I won’t go into the details here, but it turned out to be a truly meaningful family moment. I came away with a renewed sense of gratitude for having a place called family.

Here’s how my week 1,545 unfolded.

🎥 What I Created

Projects:

I’ve been working on documenting the journey of publishing Jumping the Long Rope.

Story behind it:

I enjoyed the process, and I remember how it brought me into a flow state. This piece will capture the behind-the-scenes of releasing my second book. For me, it’s important to pause and reflect on the publishing process — recording what I did and what I learned — while the memories are still vivid and clear.

🏃 How Much I Ran

Distance / Time:

28.45 km / 3 hours 37 minutes

Body & mind notes:

Lately, I’ve been happy with my kickboxing performance. My coach says my movements are sharp — punches heavy, kicks quick and strong — and I feel the same. I don’t plan on stepping into a fight, but I do want to keep building on this momentum.

📚 What I Read

Book / Article / Podcast:

夢をかなえるゾウ3 (An elephant that fulfills a dream3) by Keiya Mizuno

Quote that stuck:

“Failing just means you’re learning that much more about reality.
To turn a dream into reality — to actually make it happen — you’ve got to learn firsthand what it really takes. In fact, what we call ‘failure’ is nothing more than the process of getting to know reality.”(「失敗するちゅうことは、その分だけ現実を学んでるちゅうことやねん。夢を現実にするには──実現するには──何が必要なのかを、身をもって学んでんねん。いや、そもそも自分らが『失敗』て呼んでることは、単に『現実を知る過程』にすぎへんのやで。」)

🤝 Who I Met or Spoke To

Who:

I attended a fintech meetup in Shibuya on Wednesday, which was hosted by an acquaintance I had first met during my university part-time job.

Memorable moments:

I attended the event with an open mind and a curious attitude, and it proved to be inspiring. During the company introduction, the CTO shared that passion matters more than skills when it comes to hiring. Later, I had the chance to speak with him directly. While I expressed my interest in becoming a product manager, I realized that my genuine love for products might not be strong enough yet.

That realization gave me clarity about my next challenge: before moving forward, I want to be able to fully embrace and deliver on the opportunities already in front of me. For that, I’m grateful to the organizer — an old acquaintance — for inviting me.

🔭 Next Week’s Peek

Looking forward to:

Taking time to reorient myself for the remaining months of the year.

Why it matters:

Now that my book has been delivered, I want to start challenging myself with things I had been holding back from until now.

Hope you had a nice week.

Catch you next Sunday!
